10 Best Zinc and Quercetin Supplements of 2023

Zinc is a powerful immune nutrient known for its benefits for providing immune health support and inflammation reduction as well as for improving cold and respiratory symptoms, wound healing, acne reduction, and lowering the risk of age-related diseases. Quercetin has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can help combat various chronic diseases. In addition, quercetin is also a zinc ionophore that helps to transport zinc molecules into the cells.

Therefore, quercetin and zinc in combination exerts a synergistic antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Zinc and quercetin are also part of the FLCCC I-MASK+ protocol and Zelenko protocol for the prevention and early treatment of COVID-19.

What is Zinc?

Zinc is a powerful immune nutrient known for its benefits for providing immune health support and inflammation reduction as well as for improving cold and respiratory symptoms, wound healing, acne reduction, and lowering the risk of age-related diseases. Research on atherosclerosis and diabetes mellitus suggests that zinc deficiency may contribute to low-grade systemic inflammation.

Even more popular at the moment is the role of zinc and the potential benefits against COVID-19. This is probably one of the reasons that's driving the demand on zinc related products. In a ConsumerLab survey of 9,647 people who use dietary supplements shows that the supplements which experienced the greatest growth in popularity in 2020 were those being promoted to prevent or treat infection with SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Zinc supplements achieved the highest growth with 13.5% points.

What Is Quercetin?

Quercetin is an antioxidant that belongs to a class of water-soluble plant substances called flavonoids, which are present in certain fruits and vegetables. According to an article in Current Research in Nutrition and Food Science, the bioavailability of quercetin absorbed by your body varies, depending on the source where you get it, as well as your individual body’s metabolism of it. Sugar and dietary fat and fiber also affect it.

While the best way to get quercetin is through your diet, it also is available in supplement form, as pills or capsules. Sometimes, quercetin in supplement form is packaged with bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapples, because both have anti-inflammatory properties (Quercetin & Bromelain for inflammation). Most dietary supplements contain a chemical compound, aglycone, which is the free form of quercetin.

When looking for and using quercetin supplements, it’s important to maintain a nutritious, balanced diet with fiber and healthy fats in it, as research shows that accumulation of quercetin in the body is dependent on “factors such as glucose moieties, solubility, human factor, vitamin C status and food matrix.”

Specifically, research also says that quercetin supplementation is best achieved when consumed with a fat-enriched diet.

There are foods high in quercetin that you can add to your diet. Arguably, red onions are some of the most potent sources of quercetin; one study found that absorption of onion-derived quercetin was 52% compared to only 24% in supplement form. In fact, onions can give you three times the amount of quercetin than you’d get from apples. Other food sources that are high in quercetin include:
  • Organically grown apples, grapes and tomatoes
  • Dark cherries and dark berries like blueberries, blackberries and bilberries (eaten in moderation)
  • Cocoa, unsweetened
  • Hot green chili peppers
  • Lingonberries

Benefits of Quercetin

Quercetin has been linked to the following health benefits:
  • Possessing anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties that can help combat certain diseases. One study found that 500 mg of quercetin a day could improve symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Helping prevent cancer cell growth from breast, colon, prostate, endometrial and lung.
  • Counteracting allergic reactions and helping with immune responses.
  • Helping to prevent osteoporosis
  • Addressing cognitive decline, including Alzheimer’s and dementia.
  • Assisting in control of blood pressure. A study in 2002 found that quercetin can have vasodilator effects.
  • Potentially helping to lower blood sugar levels. One study found that dosages of 500 mg per day “significantly reduced” fasting glucose levels.

Quercetin, Zinc, Vitamin C and Vitamin D (FLCCC I-MASK+ Protocol)

Incidentally, ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and the bioflavonoid quercetin (originally labeled vitamin P) were both discovered by the same scientist — Nobel prize winner Albert Szent-Györgyi. Quercetin and vitamin C also act as an antiviral drug, effectively inactivating viruses.

There is evidence that vitamin C and quercetin co-administration exerts a synergistic antiviral action due to overlapping antiviral and immunomodulatory properties and the capacity of ascorbate to recycle quercetin, increasing its efficacy.

Quercetin, Zinc and Vitamin C - Dr Zelenko Protocol for COVID-19

According to Dr. Zelenko, the best over the counter substitute or natural alternative to hydroxychloroquine is quercetin.

When hydroxychloroquine is not available, Dr. Zelenko recommends the following OTC (over-the-counter) treatment in the early stages of COVID-19 and quercetin as a natural alternative to hydroxychloroquine. He recommends this treatment immediately after you have symptoms.

In an effort to make it easier for his patients, Dr Zelenko has developed an oral supplement that contains four key ingredients including quercetin (a zinc ionophore) in combination with zinc, vitamin C and vitamin D3. It’s referred to as 'Z-Stack Supplement'.

Each capsule contains 250 mg of quercetin, 15 mg of zinc, 2,500 IU of vitamin D3 and 400 mg of vitamin C. Cost per capsule: $0.83.

Z-Stack Vitamin cocktail provides key ingredients needed in order to help your body fight off this deadly invader. The Z-Stack Vitamins are Kosher certified, GMP certified and made in the USA.

Quercetin is a zinc ionophore. Meaning it transports zinc into the cells.

It is known that zinc will slow down the replication of coronavirus through inhibition of enzyme RNA dependent RNA polymerase (PubMed 2010). The COVID-19 virus is a single stranded RNA (RiboNucleicAcid) virus and requires the RNA polymerase to replicate.

Vitamin C and quercetin co-administration exerts a synergistic antiviral action due to overlapping antiviral and immunomodulatory properties and the capacity of ascorbate to recycle quercetin, increasing its efficacy.

Vitamin D is essential to a healthy immune system as it initiates the adaptive immune response. Clinical trial data shows that Vitamin D supplementation is safe and protects against acute respiratory tract infection mortality whereas low levels of vitamin D are associated with higher risk for infection and mortality (bmj.com).

Customer Review on ZStackLife:
My father and I have been taking Z Stack for 4 months. My wife has not. She came down with C-19. I still slept in the same bed with her and neither my father nor I got sick. She started the protocol and was fine in a few days. I'm sold on this product. - Feb 4, 2022

  • What is the Zelenko protocol? The Zelenko COVID-19 Protocol was developed by Dr Vladimir Zelenko. A retrospective study analyzing Dr Zelenko's patient data was accepted for publication in the International Journal of Antimicrobial Agents after a rigorous peer review process. The study finds that early intervention and treatment of high-risk patients with COVID-19 resulted in significantly fewer hospitalizations and deaths. The treatment consisting of zinc, low-dose hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), and azithromycin, is also referred to as "The Zelenko Protocol." Dr Zelenko has since updated his protocols to incorporate new evidence.

I started taking this when I began feeling like a cold was coming on. My throat was really bothering me, I had a bad headache, and I was sneezing. Quite honestly, I thought it was something worse than I cold but I remained optimistic. I took the Quercetin immediately and I felt better in a couple days. From my experience, it seemed to prevent my symptoms from worsening. My back also feels a little better. I sit a lot so this supplement might be helping with the discomfort I normally have.
