Find a Doctor to Get Documentation of Recovery

What is a 'Documentation of Recovery'?

The ‘Documentation of Recovery’ (also sometimes called ‘Certificate of Recovery’) is a document, signed by a licensed healthcare provider that will allow someone who recently recovered from COVID-19 (but still has a positive COVID test) to fly back to the United States–given that they have self-isolated for an adequate amount of time.

Can I use a home COVID test (self-test)?

Unfortunately no. Home COVID tests (e.g. BINEX, etc) are not sufficient proof of when the quarantine/recovery period started; it needs to be an official test result (which needs to accompany the ‘documentation of recovery’ when you travel).

How much does it cost to get a Documentation of Recovery

Each QuickMD consultation only costs $75, which includes the doctor’s note (if all requirements of self-isolation are met).

Is the documentation of recovery I will receive official and accepted by the airlines?

Our notes satisfy the CDC’s requirements for a valid ‘Documentation of Recovery’ that will make you eligible to travel with a positive COVID-19 test and return to a US airport–as per the CDC’s requirements. Our doctors are trained to assess your eligibility to receive this document (see below). Note that some airlines and governments may have additional requirements that go beyond the CDC regulations, e.g. they may require an isolation period since the positive test beyond the CDC’s isolation period, or other requirements. Please check with your individual airline for any additional requirements they may have. Given the fluidity of the rules and regulations that are involving many different countries, airlines and jurisdictions, please always check first what applies to your individual situation as we are not liable for any damages caused.

Do I have to be an American citizen to get a Document of Recovery?

The CDC’s ‘Documentation of Recovery’ is a requirement for all travelers who want to travel to the US and recently recovered from a COVID infection, but whose COVID test remains positive. You do not need to be a US citizen or resident, however we require a local US address when you register as a patient with us.

Our ‘Documentation of Recovery’ is signed by licensed US healthcare providers. If you would like to use the ‘Documentation of Recovery’ to travel to a country other than the United States, please research beforehand if this document is accepted by the particular airline and country you are flying to.

How long will it take until I receive the Documentation of Recovery?

If you agree to email communication, you will receive the ‘Documentation of Recovery’ in PDF format by email within an hour after your consultation. Please check your spam folder if you have not received it.

What are the requirements to receive a Documentation of Recovery'?

Per CDC requirements, if you have a positive COVID test you may end self-quarantine (and therefore receive a ‘Documentation of Recovery’) when one of the following criteria is met:
  • 10 days have passed since your COVID-symptoms started (however given that this cannot be verified online, the collection date of your official COVID PCR or antigen test is generally used as day 0) or
  • If you had no symptoms, 10 days must have passed since your COVID test collection date
Note that it is not enough for your family members or travel companions to have a positive COVID-19 test–even if you had the same symptoms. Each passenger needs to be COVID-tested and if positive, the above criteria must be met for each individual–not collectively.

Will this be confidential and private?

Yes, all our consultations are 100% confidential. Additionally, our platform is encrypted and fully HIPAA-compliant. If you agree to communication by email to receive your certificate please note that emails are not always fully secure.
