Omicron thrives in airways, not lungs; new data on asymptomatic cases

Image
The following is a summary of some recent studies on COVID-19. They include research that warrants further study to corroborate the findings and that has yet to be certified by peer review. Major differences in how efficiently Omicron and other variants of the coronavirus multiply may help predict Omicron's effects, researchers said on Wednesday (Dec 15). Compared to the earlier Delta variant, Omicron multiplies itself 70 times more quickly in tissues that line airway passages, which may facilitate person-to-person spread, they said. But in lung tissues, Omicron replicates 10 times more slowly than the original version of the coronavirus, which might contribute to less-severe illness. A formal report of the findings is under peer review for publication and has not been released by the research team. In a news release issued by Hong Kong University, study leader Dr Michael Chan Chi-wai said, "It is important to note that the severity of disease in humans is not determined only...

Hydroxychloroquine, Azithromycin, Zinc and Zelenko Protocol Review (December 2021)

Image
In 2020, Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) was touted as the most controversial drug in the world. Around the same time, the Zelenko protocol was in the news as well. It has been more than a year since the controversy started. Is HCQ still relevant? Is there any new evidence to suggest who has been right and wrong all along? In this article, we review some of the latest evidence related to this controversial drug, the associated Zelenko protocol and other related medications. The Zelenko Covid-19 Protocols was developed by Dr Vladimir Zelenko. The protocol has as its centerpiece, but not exclusive piece, the combined use of  Hydroxychloroquine  (HCQ) and Zinc as a means by which a person can both help to prevent or mitigate the contraction of COVID-19, or can actually treat the disease once it has been diagnosed. Dr. Zelenko’s main hypothesis was based on the data showing that early intervention and treatment of high-risk patients with  COVID-19  results in significantly...

Rapid Vitamin D Delivery May Result in Better COVID Outcomes

Image
Since the start of the pandemic, natural supplements have been a bone of contention with researchers, pharmaceutical companies, doctors and health experts. Published data   again support past research that vitamin D has a significant impact on COVID-19. Vitamin D was discovered in the early 1900s. Work by Sir Edward Mellanby from Great Britain and Elmer McCollum from the University of Wisconsin demonstrated that vitamin D could cure rickets. 2  In the early 1970s, 25-OH-D3 was identified as scientists focused on the endocrine system, and the function that vitamin D has in the body. Your body is capable of producing vitamin D with exposure to sunlight. 3  In fact, with adequate exposure, your skin can produce enough vitamin D to support your health. Early research showed that too little vitamin D led to poor calcium homeostasis. In turn, this can lead to osteoporosis, osteomalacia and rickets. Multiple studies 4 , 5  have since ...
